Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you should know about the servers in the list: connecting, server statuses, voting, and measurement. If you don't find the answer here, write to us at contact form.

Connecting to the server

How do I connect to the server?

In Minecraft, open Play → Multiplayer → Add server, insert the address from the server page into the Address field (you can copy it with the button) and confirm. You can find a more detailed procedure for Java and Bedrock in the guide. How to connect.

Java Edition and Bedrock Edition have separate addresses — if a server supports both versions, you will find both on its page.

Do I have to specify the port?

Usually not. When the address uses SRV record (typicky play.domena.cz) or the server runs on the default port, you just need to enter the domain name — and that’s exactly how we display and copy it on the server, so the port doesn’t confuse players.

If the server runs on a different port and does not have an SRV record, we list the address including the port (server.cz:25566) and it will be copied along with it. For a server with an SRV record, you will also find a backup address with a port in the details, in case the connection fails.

What version of Minecraft do I need?

For each server, we list the version that the server itself reported to us during measurement. Most servers support a range of versions — if you can’t connect, try another version in the launcher.

What does server status mean?

What server statuses do you use?

online — The server responded to our query and sent the player count, version, and MOTD. It is the most reliable information we have about the server.

offline — nobody is listening at the address (the connection was refused outright). The server is therefore not running or has changed its address.

cannot be verified — the server query expires, so We make no claims about the server.. The server may well be running: DDoS protection is used for that, which only lets selected networks through. We measure from two locations (a Czech VPS and a home node in the Czech Republic), and if neither one can reach it, we don’t display the server as offline, but as “cannot be verified”.

Why is the player count missing for some servers when they are online?

We only display numbers where we actually measure them. When a server doesn't respond to a query, we have no source for the player count — and made-up numbers don't belong on a server list.

The player count doesn't match what I see in the game. Why?

We measure once every 15 minutes, so the number is always a little older than what you see directly in the game. Servers that cannot be reached from our network are measured by our measuring node as well — its reading has the same delay.

The server has an address without a port (SRV record). Can you tell?

Yes. A lot of servers have an address like play.domena.cz and the real port hidden in DNS — the player doesn't fill in anything else in the client. It is SRV record (_minecraft._tcp.domena.cz) and we follow it just like the game: when there is no custom record for the address and an SRV record exists, we read the port from DNS and measure the correct address.

When the address doesn't translate at all (missing A and SRV record), you'll find this sentence for the server instead of the player count. It means that not even a player from our network can connect to this address — most often a DNS record is missing or there's a typo in the address.

Voting

How do I vote for a server?

On the server page, click on Vote. Your vote counts towards the ranking and the server moves up the list. You can vote for the same server once every 2 hours — we track it by address, more precisely by its irreversible fingerprint, not by your IP address.

Will I get anything in-game for voting?

It depends on the server. Servers that have vote rewards enabled will credit them to you in-game after voting (usually within a few seconds). If the reward doesn't arrive, contact the server owner directly — it's a setting on their side.

My server

How do I add my server to the list?

Register (an email is enough, or with one click via Google or Discord) and on the page Add server Fill in the form: name, address for Java and/or Bedrock, game modes and a short description. The server is checked immediately and appears in the list, adding is free and you then have the server in your profile.

Only fill in the port if it is different from 25565. If the server uses SRV record (typicky play.domena.cz), leave the port blank — we'll read the number from DNS for you.

How do I later edit the server or take over the profile?

When you added the server under your account, you are its owner: v your profile you'll find a button next to it Edit (The same is true on the server page as well) and you change the description, links, game modes, and addresses there. Changing the address immediately re-measures the server so that no invalid address remains in the list.

When someone else runs the server, on its profile you'll instead see that it has its own owner. And when MinecraftList added the server itself and it has no owner, you can ask on its page for takeover. We confirm requests manually — this way we make sure that no one claims someone else's server.

My server shows "can't be verified", even though it's running. What can I do about it?

Most often, this is server protection that blocks queries from external networks (see What does server status mean?), or about an address that does not resolve at all — it is missing both the A and SRV DNS records. We have three options: we will arrange the measurement through our measuring node, you tell us that the server moved address or port, or you ask your provider (or server administrator) to allow our measuring IP for status queries.

Can I manage the server profile myself?

The server you add under your account is automatically yours — you'll find it in your profile and you can reserve it priority spot. The “verified” badge and address changes we’ll fine-tune with you — just reach out.

Where our data comes from

Who measures server statuses, and how?

We measure on our own, using our own query via the same protocol that Minecraft itself uses to query — for Java Edition and Bedrock. We do not display the numbers that servers report on their own website.

Servers that we cannot reach from our server (typically due to Czech anti-DDoS filters) are measured by our measuring node. Even so, it is a real measurement, not an estimate.

The measurement history is public for each server, so you can check how the status has evolved.

Is the list paid? How is it ranked?

Basic listing is free. The ranking is calculated from player votes over the last 24 hours. There are also sponsored slots — they are always visibly marked and do not affect the organic ranking.

Unable to connect

The server is telling me "Can't connect to server". What should I do about it?

First check the address — typos are the most common cause. Then try server status check: the tool tells you whether the server responds and what version it reports.

When the tool reports “cannot be verified”, the problem may be on our side of the network, not with the server — try connecting directly in-game.

No server works for me. What now?

Check your internet, firewall, and whether you have the correct version of the game. When absolutely everything fails, the problem is usually on the side of your account or Minecraft’s login servers, not with the servers in the list.

Security

What should you watch out for?

Do not download any “required mods or launchers” that the server asks you for outside the game, and never enter your Microsoft/Mojang account credentials on a third-party website. Keep your account protected by two-factor authentication.

What do you store about me?

For voting, we only keep an irreversible hash of the address (SHA-256) to prevent duplicate voting — the IP address cannot be determined from it afterwards. You don't need any account or personal data to browse the list.
