What does it do?

Floodgate is an add-on to Geyser (GeyserMC). It doesn't display anything by itself — it solves one thing that is very awkward to work around without it: how to identify on the server a player who came from Bedrock Edition (phone, console) and doesn't have a Java account.

Without Floodgate, Bedrock players have to register (typically via AuthMe), because the server doesn't know their account. They therefore have different names than in Java, causing confusion in permissions and statistics.

Floodgate solves this by assigning Bedrock players a name with a prefix (the default is a dot, another can be set). The server then recognizes that it's a Bedrock player and can treat that differently — different permissions, different restrictions, different verification.

Practical consequence: players with a dot at the beginning of their name are people from phone or console. Set permissions accordingly — for example, don't give them permissions that require keyboard shortcuts that Bedrock doesn't have.

Floodgate is installed in the same place as Geyser (usually on the proxy, if you use one) and must be in sync with Geyser's settings (auth-type). When settings diverge, players connect but are without an account and behave strangely.

Some plugins on the server don't recognize Bedrock players. Floodgate won't solve that — those plugins simply don't know about Bedrock. If you run into this, look for an alternative (menu instead of command, different verification).

Installation

  1. First, install Geyser (Floodgate is pointless without it) — see the Geyser guide.
  2. Download Floodgate from geysermc.org/download in the version matching your server type (proxy, or directly on the server).
  3. Upload the .jar to the same place as Geyser (on the proxy, if you use a proxy) and restart the server.
  4. Check the console: Floodgate must load and must be compatible with Geyser.
  5. In the Geyser settings (plugins/Geyser-Spigot/config.yml), switch authentication to Floodgate (the item is called auth-type) and restart.
  6. Test it on yourself: connect from your phone and check that you appear in the game with a name that starts with a dot.
  7. Set permissions for Bedrock players according to what is actually possible from a phone — limit commands that require keyboard shortcuts.
  8. Verify that Bedrock players are counted in the online player count and that they are visible in /list.
  9. If a player connects from a phone but is without an account (has no permissions, doesn't appear in the tab list), check that Floodgate and Geyser are aligned (auth-type) and their versions.
  10. Update Floodgate together with Geyser — mismatched versions cause the most common problems.

Permissions

Permissions are granted to players or groups — most often with a command /lp user <player> permission set <node> true (LuckPerms). A node that is not in the list is unknown to the plugin.

Permissions What does it allow?
Floodgate does not add permissions for players permissions are set according to Bedrock players' names (they have a prefix, typically a dot) via LuckPerms (see its guide).

Commands

Type it in chat with slashes as well. Where is it? <player> or <uzel>, fill in your own value without brackets.

Command What does it do?
Floodgate doesn't have its own set of commands for players it's controlled via Geyser (see its guide). You can recognize Bedrock players by the prefix in their name and by the output of /geyser list.

Configuration and common mistakes

Floodgate and Geyser must have matching authentication settings (auth-type). When they fall out of sync, phone players connect, but without an account — they have no permissions, don't appear in the tab list, and it looks like a server error.
Bedrock players have a prefix in their name (default dot). Use it to set permissions and any restrictions — and keep in mind that regular Java names don't have a dot.
Some commands and features can't be used from a phone (keyboard shortcuts, part of the menu). It's worth offering Bedrock players a way without them — ideally via a menu.
Plugins that don't account for Bedrock won't recognize phone players. Floodgate won't solve that; look for an alternative approach.
Update Floodgate and Geyser together. Mismatched versions are the most common cause of connection problems.
If you have registration on the server (AuthMe), set it so it doesn't require Bedrock players to register twice — otherwise a phone player gets stuck at a registration they've already completed.

Who uses it?

We don't yet know which servers from our list use it. Modern servers do not send their plugin list in the status query, so we find that out from the owners.

Do you use it on your server? Write to us and we’ll add it here — people who are looking for plugin come to this page.

Where does the guide come from?

The guide is our own and is based on the author's documentation. We describe permissions and commands as facts, we don't make anything up — if plugin changes after an update, the guide may be out of date. (version Floodgate 2.x (Paper/Spigot, Velocity)) Did you find an error? Write to us and we'll fix it.

The file isn't hosted with us; it's downloaded from the author at (GeyserMC) — that way the current version is always available.
