GriefPrevention
Plots for players — everyone fences off a piece of the world and no one can break anything there.

What does it do?
GriefPrevention gives players their own claims, which they create themselves. They take a golden shovel, click on two opposite corners, and they have a fenced-off claim — and only they and those they invite can build in it.
The basic idea is simple: whoever makes a claim decides. They can add a friend as a builder, allow only chest opening, or give the claim entirely to someone else.
The amount of claim land is tied to the player: each has a base number of blocks according to permissions and gets more for activity (reward based on time online). On premium servers, blocks are added for votes or can be bought.
In addition to claims, the plugin also handles world properties: it disables building and breaking outside claims, turns off PvP in certain worlds, monitors fire spread, and protects chests from other players.
The griefprevention.admin.claims permission is essential — with it, management can delete and move claims. Without it, every dispute resolution gets stuck, so it belongs only in the hands of management.
Players quickly get used to claims, but they need to learn about it: many arrive and have no idea they should take a golden shovel. It pays to write it at spawn, in the menu, and in the guide on the website.
Installation
- Download GriefPrevention from modrinth.com/plugin/griefprevention or from dev.bukkit.org in the version for your server version.
- Upload the .jar to the plugins folder and restart the server.
- Verify that the plugin is running: /claim or /gp must respond.
- Set the basics in plugins/GriefPrevention/config.yml: how many blocks a new player gets (Claims\InitialBlocks) and how many blocks accrue per hour (Claims\BlocksAccruedPerHour).
- Decide who may build outside claims — with strict protection, don't give anyone the right to build outside a claim.
- Set cleanup of abandoned claims (Claims\AbandonedClaimCleanupDays, e.g. 120 days).
- Assign permissions: a regular player mainly needs griefprevention.claims.create and griefprevention.claims.pet, while leadership needs griefprevention.admin.claims.
- Test it yourself: take a golden shovel, click on two corners, and create a claim.
- Try to place a block on someone else's claim — it must reject it with a message.
- Tell players how to make a claim (spawn, menu, guide). Without that, half of them will never make a claim.
- Back up plugins/GriefPrevention/ClaimData — claims are in files, not in a database.
Permissions
Permissions are granted to players or groups — most often with a command /lp user <player> permission set <node> true (LuckPerms). A node that is not in the list is unknown to the plugin.
| Permissions | What does it allow? |
|---|---|
| griefprevention.claims.create | create land claims (golden shovel) |
| griefprevention.claims | right to land claims at all (basic for newcomers) |
| griefprevention.claims.pet | claim an animal |
| griefprevention.claims.sell | offer land claims for sale |
| griefprevention.claims.buy | buy land claims from players |
| griefprevention.claims.create.mode.2d | only two-dimensional land claims (without height) |
| griefprevention.modify.others | interfere with others' land claims |
| griefprevention.admin.claims | delete and move land claims (required for management) |
| griefprevention.admin.restore | restore a deleted land claim |
| griefprevention.admin.world | change world settings |
| griefprevention.* | absolutely everything (owner only) |
Commands

|---|---|
| /claim | information about the claim you are standing on |
| /claimlist | overview of your own claims |
| /claimblocks | how many claim blocks you still have |
| /trust <player> | adds a player as a builder (after clicking a claim with a shovel) |
| /accesstrust <player> | allows only buttons and doors |
| /containertrust <player> | allows chests and trade shops |
| /permissiontrust <player> | allows claim management (extreme variant) |
| /untrust <player> | removes permissions |
| /abandonclaim | cancels the claim you are standing on |
| /abandonallclaims | cancels all your own claims |
| /claimbook | gives the player a guide (book) about claims |
| /claimsell <price> | offers the claim for sale |
| /gp reload | reloads the configuration |
Configuration and common mistakes
GriefPrevention does not allot blocks itself — players get a base amount according to permissions and the rest according to configuration (Claims\BlocksAccruedPerHour). When they complain they have too few blocks, look for exactly these two values.
A new player must have permission to make a claim at all. If permissions are set wrong, they'll get a message that they can't, and they'll leave. Verify it on a new account.
Clean up abandoned claims over time (Claims\AbandonedClaimCleanupDays). Without that, the map becomes overgrown with empty reservations and new players won't find a spot.
The griefprevention.admin.claims permission is the key to resolving disputes: without it, leadership can't touch someone else's claim even in case of proven damage. Give it only to leadership.
A claim itself doesn't protect doors, chests, or buttons — those are added with special commands (/accesstrust, /containertrust). Players often forget this and are surprised that a friend can't get inside.
Back up plugins/GriefPrevention/ClaimData. Claims are not in the database, and without this folder, months of work will disappear during a world restore.
If protection behaves unexpectedly, verify that you don't also have another land plugin installed (WorldGuard, Towny). Two systems side by side override each other.

Where does the guide come from?
The guide is our own and is based on the author's documentation. We describe permissions and commands as facts, we don't make anything up — if plugin changes after an update, the guide may be out of date.
