What does it do?

WorldGuard guards what may be done in which place on the map. You select an area (most often using WorldEdit) and make a region out of it — and in it you disable building, breaking, opening chests, PvP, or entry for unauthorized players.

The basic idea: what is not allowed is forbidden. Inside a region, its flags apply, and building is allowed only where the player is a member or owner. Rules for the entire world are set in the world configuration.

Typical uses: spawn, where nothing may be broken; a shopping district with chests that only the owner can open; a PvP arena where PvP is allowed instead; or someone else's map that should not be entered without permission.

A region is created with commands: first you mark the area with WorldEdit (//wand, two clicks), then you type /rg define nazev. Stavitele p add /rg addmember nazev , owner /rg addowner.

P flags are set with /rg flag nazev — for example /rg flag spawn build deny. Kdy if you are not sure of the name, /rg flags nazev vyp lists all possible flags together with their current value.

WorldGuard is used together with WorldEdit (marking) and with GriefPrevention when you want players to make their own plots themselves. Regions are a hard boundary that you set — and therefore they are suitable for public buildings and shops.

Installation

  1. First install WorldEdit — without it, regions are marked only via coordinates, and it's a pain.
  2. Download WorldGuard from modrinth.com/plugin/worldguard in the version for your server version (on Fabric/Forge it is installed as a mod).
  3. Upload the .jar to the plugins folder (for mods, to mods).
  4. Restart the server and check that WorldGuard with its version appeared in the console.
  5. Type /wg version or /rg version — you'll verify that it's running.
  6. Create your first region: /wand, click on two opposite corners and type /rg define spawn.
  7. Disable building and breaking: /rg flag spawn build deny, /rg flag spawn block-break deny a /rg flag spawn block-place deny.
  8. Add yourself and the leadership as owners: /rg addowner spawn .
  9. Verify that the protection applies: try to place a block in the region (without ownership) — it must deny it.
  10. Set rules for the whole world in plugins/WorldGuard/worlds//config.yml (for example, PvP only in certain worlds).
  11. Check the extent: /rg info nazev vyp lists members, owners, and the area.
  12. Back up plugins/WorldGuard — regions are in per-world files, not in the database.

Permissions

Permissions are granted to players or groups — most often with a command /lp user <player> permission set <node> true (LuckPerms). A node that is not in the list is unknown to the plugin.

Permissions What does it allow?
worldguard.region.claim create own regions
worldguard.region.addmember.own add members to own regions
worldguard.region.remove.own remove members
worldguard.region.info view region information (/rg info)
worldguard.region.list list your regions
worldguard.region.flag.regions.own change flags of own regions
worldguard.region.redefine.own change the extent of your own region
worldguard.region.define define regions (admin)
worldguard.region.remove delete regions (admin)
worldguard.region.bypass.<world> bypass protection (staff only, it's powerful)
worldguard.admin full admin
worldguard.* absolutely everything (owner only)

Commands

Type it in chat with slashes as well. Where is it? <player> or <uzel>, fill in your own value without brackets.

Command What does it do?
/rg define <name> creates a region from the current selection (//wand)
/rg redefine <name> moves the region to a new selection
/rg addmember <name> <player> adds a builder to the region
/rg addowner <name> <player> adds an owner (can manage the region)
/rg removemember a /rg removeowner removes a member or owner
/rg flag <name> <flag> <hodnota> sets a flag (e.g. build deny)
/rg flags <name> lists all flags and their values
/rg info <name> members, owners and region bounds
/rg list list of regions (/rg list -p <player> lists their regions)
/rg remove <name> deletes a region
/rg setpriority <name> <number> priority when regions overlap
/wg reload reloads the configuration (after manually editing files)
/wg report overview of regions and status (for checking)
Common flags: build, block-break, block-place, pvp, invincible, entry, chest-access, use, mob-spawning (values deny or allow)

Configuration and common mistakes

A flag on a specific region is stronger than the global world setting. If a rule is not respected, look for the region flag, not the world configuration.
Someone else's region won't let you do anything, even if you have permission to build elsewhere. That is correct behavior, not a bug — exceptions are what /rg addmember.
Kdy is for; if it is only an exception for one player, use region membership instead of changing the flag for everyone.
Flag names are not guessed — /rg flags also prints an explanation. A misspelled flag will be saved, but does nothing, which is very hard to troubleshoot.
worldguard.region.bypass bypasses all protection. Don't give it to moderators without thinking: it means they can build in other people's regions too.
Overlapping regions are governed by priority (/rg setpriority). If protection behaves unexpectedly, find the regions that intersect at the location, and give higher priority to the one that should win.
Back up plugins/WorldGuard. Regions are not in a database, and when moving to a new server, without this folder you will create them again.
